How do I upgrade to MindManager 7 from a prior version?

MindManager 7 and/or the MindManager 7 trial can be installed side-by-side with other MindManager versions—installing a new version will not automatically delete an old version.

Mindjet recommends, however, that you uninstall any previous version before installing MindManager 7 to prevent technical problems with product add-ins and to remain in compliance with the Mindjet End User License Agreement (EULA).

Note: The MindManager 7 trial is the full version of MindManager Pro 7. For customers who have downloaded and installed the trial and then purchased a license key, there is no need to uninstall the trial and re-download the product. Simply enter the purchased license key into the trial to unlock the software and prevent it from converting into viewer mode.

Is there a MindManager Lite 7 trial?

No. For customers interested in MindManager Lite 7, we suggest trying the MindManager Pro 7 trial. Please review the MindManager Product Comparison to better understand the feature differences during yorur evaluation. Customers who purchase MindManager Lite 7 and miss the additional features can upgrade to MindManager Pro 7 by paying the difference between the two versions in the Mindjet Online Store.

Note that users of a MindManager Pro 7 trial will need to uninstall this version before installing MindManager Lite 7. MindManager Lite 7 uses a different license key from MindManager Pro 7.

Do maps created with prior versions work within MindManager 7 and vice versa?

Yes. MindManager 7 is backwards-compatible and can open .mmap and .mmp files created with prior versions. Older versions of MindManager that use the .mmap file extension can open MindManager 7 maps as well, but some of the new features such as embedded spreadsheets or custom properties may be disabled in these maps.

Note: There is a known issue wherein maps created with MindManager 7 will not open in MindManager 6.0.643. MindManager 6.2.399 has been demonstrated to be compatible, however.

Can the new Ribbon UI be switched to a "classic" view?

No. There is no "switch to classic view" functionality in the MindManager 7 interface. The ribbon UI may, however, be minimized in one of two ways:

  1. Right-click the menu bar and check "Minimize the Ribbon"
  2. Double-click a ribbon tab to window-shade the ribbon on and off.

Additionally, the Quick Access Toolbar may be customized so that some of the more commonly-used features are close-at-hand.

The MindManager 7 interface is similar to what is found in Microsoft Office 2007. This UI similarly allows for very little customization. The new interface, however, is designed to increase productivity as previously hidden menu items are now brought to the forefront.

What is the MindManager Admin Setup?

The admin setup is primarily for systems administrators. This is used for large-scale deployment and for custom installations. The average individual should not need it. The Admin package contains the MindManager Pro 7 MSI installer and all other required components, such as Windows Installer 3.0, .NET 2.0 Framework and a full technical reference for deploying MindManager.

There is no admin package available for MindManager Lite 7.
